Exploring a megadungeon (or wilderness) and returning to the inn at the end of the adventure. Might send out a different group the next time to better handle what the last group had run into.<br /><br />I was originally going to say that they did that in old school D&D, but I think I was remembering a combination of two things. First, there might be a large pool of players and only a set might be in on an night/adventure. A different set on another one, which may or may not include some of the first set. Second was that parties back then had lots of cohorts/hirelings/whatever to soak up the damage.
